There’s a huge campaign to work through, loads of aliens to blast into little piece and permadeath that’s going to break your heart when your squad members die. This is, hands-down, one of the best games available on the Play Store.

An idle game that sees you trying to protect a growing settlement from a variety of dangers. You need to build, you need to work, you need to protect.
Civilization Revolution 2
A huge, massively detailed game of building up a civilization from scratch. You might call it… revolutionary. Will you choose diplomacy or force? What technology are you going to build?
This one sees you taking control of a tropical island. You’re in charge of everything – whether it’s building roads and buildings or sending off forces on military engagements.
Rise of Kingdoms: Lost Crusade
A midcore strategy game that takes place on a single enormous map. It’s populated with NPCs and other players, and you can pick one of 11 different starting civilizations to start off as.
Epic Little War Game
A tile-based strategy game that’s packed to the gills with content. There’s a huge single player campaign, loads of different multiplayer modes and even randomly generated maps. Basically you’re getting a massive chunk of bang for your buck and you’re going to enjoy every second of it.
Bad North: Jotunn Edition
A smart mixture of an RTS, a roguelike and a tower defense game. Bad North sees you trying to defend your island from invading Viking hordes. There’s permadeath, procedurally generated levels and loads more to keep you entertained. Don’t let the charming graphics fool you either, Bad North: Jocund Edition is a spectacular challenge.
Rome: Total War
One of the greatest RTS games, now in the palm of your hand. Rome: Total War puts you in control of enormous military forces and lets you lead them into battle. There’s 19 different factions to pick from, a huge campaign to sink your teeth into and loads more. This is the closest you’re ever going to get to being a Roman general.

Another one with a focus on combat. Hoplite takes place on small, tight levels and sees you hacking and slashing your way through a variety of monsters. You need to think carefully about every move you make, otherwise your game is going to be over before it’s even started.
A mixture of a turn-based tactical battler and an RPG. It’s got PvE and P2P elements and gives you a massive fantasy world to explore and conquer. There’s a decent story and some fresh ideas that are going to keep you on your toes as well. Throw in some Vikings, some thieves and some assassins and you’re on to a winner.
